IT CAME IT CAME IT CAME IT CAME! I so excited! Not leaving the DVD player at all. Nope, never.

Addendum: 3:20 pm - Got the DVD at 12:30, and just finished the first season already. Only reason I'm taking a break now is because I'm going to be brainstorming a photoshoot with my tranny friend Ken, makeup girl/coworker Melissa, and costumer/flatmate Ashleigh. IT'S GONNA BE TIGHT, Y'ALL!

Also, I'm going to be setting up the 72 Hour Photo Project again real soon. Keep an eye out for details.

Today, I thwarted evil. Almost. Thwarting will be finished tomorrow when I lock the van so my sister's loser ass boyfriend can't keep using it as a free hotel. Dumbass told my mom he had an apartment, too.

A new thing I thought of doing - making a kandi a day. Why? A)I need more kandi!! B) Tis fun and creative enough to make me feel not lazy C)It could be fun to sort of symbolize the day in kandi, however strange that sounds.

So, day 1:

Dearest street dancers,

Breakers do it right-- I implore you, take a note from them. Tricks aren't necessary, but power is the key. Seriously. Breakdancers got that shit right in the 80s and have only been getting better.

Pop n' Lockers, y'all are just outdated. Sorry. You might as well put on red overalls and call yourself Rerun.

Tektonic? You guys just look lazy. Lazy pretentious French kids taking a cue from 80s US culture and who've got flexible arms.

Voguers, get off the crack.

Krumpers and clowners: David LaChappelle managed to make you look cool in Rize, I'll give you that much. But take it to the next level and start doing windmills, then you'll be set.

Truthfully yours,
Jeremy

PS: For those who don't know, I'm slightly more qualified than I probably sound like to be talking shit. Growing up in the SFV, those dance movies coming out lately of hard ass dance crews fucking each other up that sound so fake? Yeah, that wasn't too far off base in the Sylmar/San Fernando/Pacoima area. I knew a lot of breakers, and I knew a lot of the drama. It was kinda ridiculous.

Also, I'm just a hater :D

An excerpt from the script of my life [16 Jul 2008|02:14pm]

[ mood | idiots ]
[ music | My Chemical Romance - Sleep ]

INTERIOR, DAY (roughly 2pm). JEREMY ALVA, a mohawk clad 20-something, sits in his living room. His roommates, ASHLEIGH, ERIC and NATE are scattered about the apartment watching Ranma 1/2 or on their laptops.

Jeremy is playing Pandemic II on his laptop. Suddenly the song Love Shack by The B-52s blasts; his cellphone.

Jeremy looks at his phone. Area code is from the one he used to live in, but he doesn't recognize it.

He answers it.

          MALE VOICE
     Hello, is this Jeremy Alva?

         JEREMY [confused]
     Yeah. Who's this?

         MALE VOICE
Hi, this is the Santa Monica courthouse confirming that you're going to be coming in to testify tomorrow, at 9 AM.

           JEREMY
     ...What?

         MALE VOICE
Are you coming in to testify tomorrow morning?

Jeremy looks at his roommates, befuddled. They look back, curious of what's going on.

           JEREMY
     ...What are you talking about?

The line is silent for a moment.

           JEREMY cont.
This is the first time I'm hearing anything about anything. What am I testifying for?

         MALE VOICE
This is regarding the case with the Art Institute. I'm gonna have someone call you back in fifteen minutes.

The other end disconnects. Jeremy closes his phone, further confused.

------------------

That was half an hour ago. I still don't know what the hell is going on for sure. It's been a year and two months since I've graduated. There is ONE thing I can think it might be, thought in all seriousness it should've been dealt with A YEAR AGO.

For those of you who don't remember or didn't know me then, I used to work at the school in the video equipment rental office-- the video cage, as it were. One saturday, during my final semester, I go into work to open and notice that the camera I had rented myself to shoot my thesis with is missing! Well, that's funny because I had closed the night before and it sure as hell was there. So in the time that I personally closed and locked the door the night before and personally opened it the next day it-- and a lot of other equipment I had reserved, and still other stuff, had gone missing.

There'd been a thing lately of equipment disappearing. Mostly minor stuff, and considering it was a lot of people working a lot of shifts with a lot of students sometimes things go missing or get lent out that aren't noted. But thousand dollar lights and even more expensive cameras are a bit noticeable.

So I alert the guy at tech who has access to the security cameras. After a while he brings me in, and is like "Don't we know this guy?"

On it was a former worker going in half an hour after I'd left and casually opening the door, and the other rooms door, and taking a bunch of equipment. Just enough to get past security and look like he's just another student leaving late with his stuff.

There was an investigation, and I was asked questions-- but all things considered it should've been open and shut. Positive identity, it was easy to see who he was. He still lived in the area-- was a student, even. It should've been easy enough! So if this is the same case, what the fuck?

In any case; I've not heard anything from anyone about ANY case, regardless. This was literally the first thing I've heard. Not to mention I live nowhere near there and have no possible means of getting down there. Someone really dropped the ball.

Ugh... Still no call back. I'm about to call THEM back.

Apropos - Graham [15 Jul 2008|02:10pm]

[ mood | SHOWER TIME! ]
[ music | My Chemical Romance - I'm Not Okay ]

First order of business, I'm officially calling the comic Apropos-- not Death Head. I wanted to call the race of people in the comic death head's anyway, not the comic itself.

This is Graham! Or a concept sketch of him. It's incomplete for two reasons: 1, I couldn't figure how to do the background I wanted properly. 2, I'm gonna do it over. It's not as good as it can be, which irks me.

In other news, I have to wait at least two weeks before I get my scanner mailed up to me. Lameface.

Also, it seems I listen to a major amount of My Chemical Romance, 'cause when I type 'M' into the music section this huge list pops up for every time I've listed them as what I'm listening to. Neat!

Of parties, feet, and secrets [14 Jul 2008|10:55pm]

blackfay
So, the birthday party:
I thought it went great, some minor guest drama aside. Sara's co-op neighbors are great, really friendly and whatnot, and all the people who showed up seemed to get along well. And there was plenty of alcohol! haha. We did some wandering, Sara was drunk almost literally off her ass, I got to know Daniel's gf Alana better because of her alcohol induced talkativeness - it was fun!

Although so much travel to and from...

But I;ve got my permit again!

The downside:
The fleas at the apartment bit me tons and now my left foot is mysteriously swollen. Like the whole foot, not just where I was bit. I tried to go to urgent care today, but I couldn't find my insurance card *and* apparently they decided to close and hour and a half early, as the chick in the front told me they were closing as I left at 6:30pm to get my card - they weren't supposed to close til 8!!

Hopefully the swelling will go down, or, if not, I'll just try again tomorrow. -_-

And secrets....well, only one secret. I want to share, but am sorta scared of the consequences. It's pleasant enough though, but killing me to hold it in. But for now, it'll do. ^_^

High lights of the day! [14 Jul 2008|09:47pm]

Met a new friend today! New as in we'd talked about online a bit, but today was the first time we've met in person. This guy named Ken, AKA Melanie. He wants to be a she, but he still doesn't like to wear dresses in public. Eh, I hope (s)he gets comfortable enough to start that or she'll probably never feel comfortable-- or she'll realize she doesn't like it, and go back to being a he. Either way, the guy's cool.

Ash and I went to meet him at the mall. DAY OF WIN! Ash bought an expensive phone for not-too-bad of a price. She's worried Nate'll be angry she spent so much money, but it's for a good reason, so... But the thing that was best was the guy who was helping her out was way hot. Donovin, or something. He was a cool dude-- talked about tats, zombies, shit like that. And the girl working with him was way cool too, haha. They both won.

Then we got to Suncoast and THOSE guys won too! Kept talking shit with them while they helped us look for movies, and talked about shitty customers in retail. Hella neat.

And the guy at Hot Topic? He kinda won as well. Everyone who helped us out at the mall today were just way too cool, it was insanely awesome.

What DOESN'T win-- and in fact fails-- is when we were driving down Pearl and the car in front of us suddenly changes lanes to the right, and we see in front of us is the VW van with one headlight bearing down on us-- on a one-way street! My mind couldn't comprehend for a second. We changed lanes, and the people behind us as well, and everything was okay but... seriously, man, that was fucking stupid.

THINGS I GOT:
- Machine Gun Girl (!!!)
- Countdown To Wednesday comicbook documentary
- Punk O Rama - The Videos Volume 1
- A Germs tee-shirt

Day of win.

Addendum: 11:22 Day of win continues.

We were talking about our friend Dee converting to Mormonism, which Eric was excommunicated from a few years ago.

Me: Yeah, Dee is totally Mormon now.
Eric: NO! Give me her phone number! I must save her soul!
Ash: She's been baptised!
Eric: I must save her soul, though!
Ash: No.
Eric: Then can I get my ears pierced?
Ash: Okay.
Eric: Horray!

I am so extremely sad I cannot go to San Diego Comic Con. I'm not kidding, for the past few years it was my Mecca. I'd be willing to stand in that shitty three hour line to get tickets if I could afford to get down there. Guess I signed up for that when I moved and all.

Oh well, guess I'll just have to work on my own comic then... Speaking of, expect another shitty cam pic of a drawing I'm working on later tonight.

I'm at work when this woman comes in to pick up her photos.

Me: Last name?
Her: Garcia.
I rummage around and find her photos, and begin snickering. She gives me a questioning look.
Me: Cherri?
Her: Yeah.
Me: Cherri Garcia?
Her: ...
Me: Like the--
Her: --ice cream.

HA! Awesome.

The second one is from when Ashleigh was reading the titles of some of the horrible slash fics that winds up on The Black Parade, a My Chemical Romance message board.

Ashleigh: Oh my god, this one is called "Never Coming Home," but... there's no E in never!
Me: But... there're TWO E's in never!

Day of win.

Reviews, and news [12 Jul 2008|11:32pm]

[ mood | work at 8 ]
[ music | Operatica Shine ]

Guess who went into work today when he wasn't scheduled! Anyway...

Posted two new reviews online today, would appreciate it if y'all took the time out of your busy lives of internetting to check them out.

Book Review: Hero, by Perry Moore, over at DoorQ.com.

Jeremy Recommends : SlowMo Erotic, at QueerPunks.com

Rave reviews on both, 'cause I tend not to talk about shit when I don't like or care for it. Such is the way of my world.

In other news, I think this is going to be my last piece for QueerPunks.com. I'm burnt out on nobody responding to it, and not feeling like it really matters. Also, that shit that Adam pulled a while back about planning on shutting down the site because I was in the midst of moving and couldn't do anything really pissed me off, and I'd been wanting to pull away from it for a while. But I'm not abandoning the queercore scene, oh no.

I want to do something bigger: I want to create a site for all of queercore rock and hip-hop, not so centric on punk. It's still formulating in my head, but it's definitely a big project and I have to decide if it's worth putting my heart into, and whether or not anybody will actually care about it. I don't know.

I just need a break from the whole idea of it for a while.

In other news, I've begun the actual writing for the graphic novel Death Head. As of right now, that's the tentative title of the story. It's what I've been calling it, so I might just stick with it. And if anyone mentions that Marvel second stringer, I swear I'll scream. It's nowhere near the same thing, seriously.

Now go read the reviews! I have a headache...

Temporary shots of the pictures I've drawn lately.

Graham, from the comic Death Head, at an earlier age in the midst of a dream-- I think. Drawing took me about four hours start to finish.

Noni Wright, a character I made up just 'cause I liked the idea of a dog skull under a hoodie. It's kinda important to me that all my characters have names, and Noni just seems to fit. The bottom is cut off, where you see her legs properly and notice she's walking.

NOW LET'S ALL BREAKDANCE! ...I gotta get ready for work...

Comics, scanner, gay, empty [11 Jul 2008|02:44pm]

dergerm
[ mood | over ten years ago ]
[ music | Slow Mo Erotic - Cunt ]

Went comic'ing today with Ash and Nate! Here's what I got:

The Walking Dead, tpb 8 (ZOMG, insane!)
The Boys : Get Some, tpb 2
Invincible Eight Is Enough, tpb 2
Batman: The Dark Knight Returns
Demo

The last one, Demo, intregues me. It's a collection of twelve stories, and I know absolutely nothing about it. I like buying stuff just to see what it's all about. That's how I discovered every awesome comic I love now :D

Also, went to Best Buy so I could buy a scanner to scan in some of the stuff I've been drawing lately. Something I learned? They don't sell just scanners anymore. No, they bundle them up into those 'all-in-one' packets that while convenient for most everyday stuff is TERRIBLE for comic illustrators and those who use larger pages to draw on!

The way they build the new AIO (hereafter condensed to meet the needs of we on-the-go types) things is to have the scanner part open length wise, with the wider part (the length of a regular page) being the part that is hinged. The way I NEED my scanner to work is to have it open width wise, where the narrower part of the scanner opens-- this is so I can do half the page at a time properly. It's a bitch and a half to do it otherwise, and doesn't get the whole image.

I have a scanner down in Cali, so Nate told me to just have my mom ship it up here. Dumb bastage and his smarts... So, yeah, now I have to wait and hope that the two awesome illustrations I've done the past few days doesn't get utterly destroyed-- it's happened before (in fact, one of the drawings is a redo of one that was destroyed and subsequently lost).

Aaaaanyway, enough of the bitching. Let me talk about the hot guys. Best Buy seems to have a Hooters mentality of hiring guys-- they have to all be hot (or old, for some reason. No middle ground it seems). Even one of the customers was way hot-- one of those masculine but trendy queers with ironic beards and gay shoes that make me wish we were I actually cared enough about shoes to say something to him like "Oh my god, are those -insert something fabulous-?"

We'd totally be making out right now. Seriously.

Also, I bought an anime series called Noein: To Your Other Self. It's one of those 'Let's make up horrible soul-crushing scenarios and cast the main characters as twelve-year-olds!' sort of shows, it seems. None of my roommates know anything about it, none of us know if it's good, but it was thirty-five bucks so of course I bought it. I just got paid, didn't I?

AND lastly: as those of you who know me in any way know, I'm a slow reader. Love books, but I take my time with them. Then I bought this book Hero a few days ago and... let's just say I started reading it and couldn't put it down. Yesterday I was up to page 100-something out of 428 at around six in the afternoon, and around seven in the morning I had finished (allotting about two/three hours worth of extracurricular activities like dinner and drawing). I fucking stayed up until SEVEN in the MORNING to finish this book.

Needless to say, I loved it. Hell, it actually made me gay-cry three times. Expect a full review this weekend over at DoorQ.com. Also, another review to look forward for is of the band Slow Mo Erotic's album, The HOLLA!caust. Expect glowing reviews for both of these :D

Y'know, for me expecting to finish this post after listing the comics I sure got wordy.

Right hand \ Left hand [11 Jul 2008|02:10am]

dergerm
[ mood | hard berry ]
[ music | My Chemical Romance - Drowning Lessons ]

Something really interesting I've noticed about myself: I'm not naturally ambidextrous. I'm usually pretty inept with my left hand, aside from playing guitar and other instruments. Otherwise it's almost useless, haha. But every once in a great while-- in the midst of drawing or writing a lot at once, when my right hand gets tired, I'll just casually switch hands and start using my left. There's a fairly noticeable difference in how it looks, but it's altogether a cohesive thing. Then when I realize I'm writing/drawing with my left hand my brain switches gears and suddenly my left hand is useless again.

I have no idea what the fuck is up with this, but it's really really neat.

BTW: Drawing a fuck lot lately, wish I had a damned scanner! Buying one over the weekend I think.
